Class Descriptions

ADULT CLASSES

Hatha
A moderate yoga class for all levels, incorporating breathing (pranayama), yoga postures (asana) and meditation/relaxation. Extra attention will be paid to proper breathing and basic alignment. Suitable for beginners and more experienced yogis alike.

Hatha for Stress
Yoga is beneficial for both its physiological and psychological benefits. This class is a good start to learn gentle yoga poses, breathing and relaxation exercises as well as meditation to manage the stress and anxiety in your life. A homework will be suggested at the end of each class to give you the opportunity to practise at home.

Dynamic/Hatha Flow Yoga
This is a flowing hatha yoga class with emphasis on integrating movement with the breath. Poses move dynamically from one to another creating warmth in the body and focusing the mind. We’ll explore more advanced poses such as hand balances and inversion (with lots of preparation of course!). To bring balance, the practice finishes with a deep relaxation. Beginners are welcome.

Jivamukti
Derived from Indian roots, Jivamukti yoga is a powerful vinyasa flow sequence inspired by the Ashtanga yoga tradition, nadaa yoga (yoga of sounds) and incorporating as well the yogic philosophy of the ancient texts relating to our modern life allowing you to explore the full potentiel being the actor and creator of the life you want to share with all. In one heart stirring practice, breath, intention and movement meet as one, with continuous hands-on adjustments, amazing music, inversions, meditation, chants and deep relaxation. Experience suggested, good for all levels.

Yoga for Breast Cancer Recovery
This class is sponsored by Cedars CanSupport and the Cedars Breast Clinic at the Royal Victoria Hospital.  It explores breathing exercises, gentle postures, meditation and self-massage techniques that help women regain strength and flexibility as well as to cope with the diagnosis on their way to optimal health.

Yoga for Round Bodies
Yoga for Round Bodies classes are a fun and safe way for round people to explore their curves. The focus will be on gentle movement, restorative yoga, breathing, and relaxation.. Come and join us in these supportive classes where you will be able to practice freely in a comfortable, non-competitive, non-weight loss oriented environment. Your size, or ability are NOT important—come and begin from where you are, yoga can be part of your life RIGHT NOW.

Pilates
This is an exercise system that is focused on building strength without bulk, improving flexibility and agility, and helping to prevent injury. It involves a series of controlled movements that engage both your body and mind. The class generally consists of very gentle exercises done on a mat. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility.

Yoga for Digestion
A gentle class that focuses on certain yoga poses help to align the gastrointestinal tract and make it run more smoothly. It incorporates meditation to deal with the mental and emotional causes: stress, anxiety, depression, etc. to achieve a better mind/body balance. This class is open to everyone, and particularly for those who live with IBS, chrones, colitis and other digestive issues.

Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga concentrates on the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. It generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. The practice is characterized by holding passive postures for several minutes each.

Queer Yoga

This is an Ashtanga-based class for queer and trans people and their allies, offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. We focus on breathing, body connectivity, and strength building for bodies of all types, making this class particularly suited to people just starting to practice, people seeking a back-to-basics class, or people who’d like an introduction to the Ashtanga primary series. Yin/Yang Yoga
Life is full of contrast and for a balanced existence we require a blend of contrasting energies. Yin/Yang Yoga blends our active, outward energy with our inner reflective nature to bring strength and flexibility through the practice of yoga postures, deep stretches, breath work and relaxation techniques.

FAMILY CLASSES

Prenatal Yoga
This course provides an opportunity to develop greater vitality and awareness of your body that is home for two, as well as deepen your relationship with your baby. Gentle postures, breath work, vocal toning and meditation are learned to cultivate flexibility, calm and confidence in preparation for labour and childbirth. This class can help you to use yoga techniques to prepare for an active and natural birth.

Moms and Babies
For babies from 6 weeks to crawling this is a great way to bond with your baby and meet other moms. In this class, mom and baby work together in yoga poses. Poses focus around creating core strength, easing tire muscles and co-operation between mom and baby. Each class ends with a short yoga practice and massage for baby.

Toddlers
Movement inspired from animals and nature, from songs, to playing, to art, to meditation, breathing, and relaxing, the yoga practice will be conveyed on rewarding and creative themes where everyone will be at his or her best. The yoga classes will awaken motor skills, balance, flexibility, strength, joy, self-confidence, self-respect and of others. Both child and parent are welcome…

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMME

All classes are designed for the elementary school age child

Capoeira
Capoeira Angola is a dance and a game, mixing aspects of martial art techniques. It was invented by African slaves in Brazil more than four centuries ago . This art has been perfected over time to include play, physical activities, music and traditional songs. The goal of the course is to introduce the children to the foundation of this art, and to help them become aware of their bodies, their voices as well as to teach them basic music with percussion and traditional songs. Capoeira Angola is a fun activity suitable for children, who will rejoice along with the development of their tricks and techniques of their struggles in the evolution of their artitistic and musical sensitivity.

Hip Hop
The children will be introduced to the spirit of Hip-hop in this class. It allows the children to warm up and have fun while learning the basics of Hip-hop to thier favorite music. The child will learn to work with rhythm, movement and space while developing the hip-hop “attitude”.

Yoga
Yoga for children offers many possibilities to exchange wisdom, share good times, and lay the foundation for a lifelong practice that will continue to deepen. Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Using kid-friendly poses, yoga brings that marvelous inner light that all children have to the surface. Yoga asanas are used as a springboard for exploration of many other areas—animal adaptations and behavior, music and playing instruments, storytelling, drawing— it is a truly interdisciplinary approach to learning.

KARMA YOGA

We believe that yoga is for everyone! Our aim with theses classes is to make yoga accessible and affordable to everyone who has the desire to make yoga a part of their lives.

For the summer and early fall, classes are held in Sir-Georges-Etienne-de-Cartier park between the pool and the fountain. For winter and until the weather gets warm enough you’ll find us in the studio.

All donations collected will be used to help the women and children of Korhogo, Ivory Coast.

Sundays 10:00-11:00 am
In case of rain, classes will be held in the studio.
