Class Descriptions
Hatha
A moderate yoga class for all levels, incorporating breathing (pranayama), yoga postures (asana) and meditation/relaxation. Extra attention will be paid to proper breathing and basic alignment. Suitable for beginners and more experienced yogis alike.
Hatha for Stress
Yoga is beneficial for both its physiological and psychological benefits. Taught by practicing psychologist and yoga teacher Isabelle Lemay, this class is a good start to learn gentle yoga poses, breathing and relaxation exercises as well as meditation to manage the stress and anxiety in your life. A homework will be suggested at the end of each class to give you the opportunity to practise at home.
Hatha for BackCare
Taught specifically with your back in mind! Each class is tailored to the participants present each day.
We will focus on the things that prevent and relieve back pain – flexibility of the hips and spine, core strength and relaxation.
A great way to return to yoga after an injury or to prevent one!
Dynamic Flow Yoga
This is a flowing hatha yoga class with emphasis on integrating movement with the breath. Poses move dynamically from one to another creating warmth in the body and focusing the mind. We’ll explore more advanced poses such as hand balances and inversion (with lots of preparation of course!). To bring balance, the practice finishes with a deep relaxation. Beginners are welcome.
Flow
A flowing hatha yoga class that moves at a more relaxed pace. We take more time to explore each pose giving us the chance to be more detailed about our alignment and blending the fluid aspects of the practice with a more grounded approach. A great way to start if you are new to flowing practices or if you simply want a more relaxed approach. Beginners are welcome.
Please note: Classes marked (p) on the schedule are taught by teachers trained in prenatal yoga and are open to pregnant participants at all stages of their pregnancy. Please inform you teacher if you are pregnant so that she can provide modifications where necessary.
Yoga 101
Never done yoga? This is the perfect place to start! We’ll take you through the basic yoga poses, alignment, breathing and relaxation with a friendly teacher in a comfortable environment.
(You don’t need to be a beginner to take this course. Looking at yoga from a ‘back to the basics’ perspective is a great way to deepen your practice.)
Prenatal Yoga for Couples
This course brings mom, baby and partner together to birth together as a family with confidence, presence and knowledge.
Families will learn to stay in synch with each other, create positive communication through touch and voice, stay grounded in the present through the breath and trust their instincts.
We will look at birthing, partnering and parenting fro the yogic perspective.
Foundations
In this course we’ll break down yoga poses to their basics and build them back up.
Each class we’ll do the same basic yoga sequence focusing on a different aspect or action in the poses:
Week one we’ll examine how the grounding action of the legs and pelvis can bring new lift and lightness to your practice.
Week two we’ll look at issues surrounding the alignment of the shoulders and shoulder girdle.
Week three we focus on the core (the bandhas or deep abominal support) and the spine.
Week four we’ll bring them all together and explore how energy moves through the body along lines and spirals.
Moms and Babies
For babies from 6 weeks to crawling this is a great way to bond with your baby and meet other moms. In this class, mom and baby work together in yoga poses. Poses focus around creating core strength, easing tire muscles and co-operation between mom and baby. Each class ends with a short yoga practice and massage for baby.
Toddlers
For toddlers 20 months to 4 years of age. A fun class for toddler and parent. This is yoga like you’ve never seen it! Sing songs, dance with scarves and play yoga games. A great way to introduce yoga to young children and teach them the skills of play, focus and relaxation.
We believe that yoga is for everyone! Our aim with theses classes is to make yoga accessible and affordable to everyone who has the desire to make yoga a part of their lives.
